In a nutshell: buy anything illegal without being caught. So yes, it is useful if you're a criminal.

-anonymous debates on literature, politics

-host blogs for Lebanon, Mauritania, and Arab Spring nations where free exchange of ideas (especially government-related)

SO TO CONCLUDE?

There are both pros and cons to the Darknet.
Use it carefully.
